TCYC supports both cruiser racing and cruising and dinghy racing. Cruiser racing takes place offshore Teignmouth and in adjacent areas of the Couth Devon coast. Dinghy racing takes place in the tidal estuary of the River Teign, based on our dinghy park at Combeinteignhead on the South bank of the river. The cruiser racing season is typically from April - early October. Dinghy racing takes place all year round, given daylight and water in the river.
The cruiser cruising section has become more popular in recent years. The mainstay is cruising in company to locations along the South Devon and South Cornwall coasts, but longer cruises are also tried. In 2005 cruises were successfully made to the Isles of Scilly and to the Channel Islands/Brittany.
We are also keen to host National and International dinghy Championships offshore Teignmouth. We enjoy excellent support and co-operation from Teignmouth Town Council and Teignbridge District Council in this regard. During 2005 we hosted the Vortex National Championships and the Fireball National, European and World Championships, with an entry of 176 boats. We are already fully booked for 2006 with the Contender Nationals in June and the Laser II Europeans in August.
As a Recognised Training Centre, we offer 'Start Sailing' and National Certificate dinghy training, powerboat training to Safety Boat level and a variety of shore-based courses such as First Aid, diesel engine maintenance, DSC radio and radar courses. All the above are run on an as-required basis rather than through a laid=down programme.
This small but friendly club is always keen to welcome new sailing members, whether from the area or people who are loking to move to this lovely part of the country
